Listening to the audiobook version of Seth Godin’s Purple Cow, he says at the end, “As we end this program, pull your car over, pull out a paper and a pen…”
I couldn’t help but notice. I was riding my bike connected to a stationary trainer in my basement, so it was super weird.
On the other hand, virtually every audiobook anyone listened to before smart phones was either a tape or a cd, and the place anyone would be most likely to listen to one would be in the car. (Going by my pre-iPhone audiobook use in my cohort anyway)
It matters quite a bit if you understand the context of how virtually everyone will use your product, doubly so if you need to refer to it.
Of course, I asked Siri to take a note so I would remember it for this post, so I managed to recover despite having no paper or pen either, same as I asked her to play the book, and that wouldn’t have existed when the recording was made.
But I thought it was a very clever way that virtually everyone who listened to the book when it came out might be pretty impressed that he referred to what they were doing as they were listening to it.
