My inbox reminded me of the demo event that Women In Voice‘s Seattle branch was having tomorrow (or today, if you’re getting this by email!).
I see there’s a waitlist now, but you might as well register if you’re interested, who knows?
All of these are brand new companies doing new stuff, so in an exciting way they’re peers of a voice design student, if you happen to be one of those. I for one will be checking it out because, well I was planning on attending in person already. But that was because I know some volunteers and generally am interested in and support organizations and mechanisms to have discussions and share ideas about speech technology in general.
Especially when they prioritize and support communities that aren’t always prioritized in our broader social and cultural venues. The ideas people with money have are dusty, but when VC meeting rooms and tech leadership discussions are filled with people who have different ones, well, I’m excited to hear those tomorrow.
It’s been a minute since I took a Women’s Studies class, but now that my horrifically dated Third Wave views are now mainstream and intersectionality are a default (at least when some privileged folks talk about it, in the venues they talk about it), I love pushing those ideas everywhere!
